First Nations Technology Council announces partnership with digital learning company BrainStation

The First Nations Technology Council is pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with BrainStation that will see Indigenous students succeed in fields such as data science, web development and UX/ UI design. Through the Futures Program, 12 seats each year will be held for Indigenous students across all BrainStation programs.

“This partnership will help directly address the under-representation of Indigenous people in the digital economy. As the future of work becomes increasingly reliant on workers with digital skills, we know how critical it is to empower the next generation of Indigenous technologists to pursue rewarding careers in the technology and innovation sector, and most importantly, in growing local digital economies,” says Denise Williams, CEO of the First Nations Technology Council.

Williams continues, “We at the Technology Council view Indigenous participation in the digital economy as a key driver in closing the socioeconomic gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, and encouraging Indigenous innovation for the benefit of all in society. We are looking forward to working with BrainStation, a global leader in workforce transformation.”

The Futures in Innovation and Technology program began in 2016 with support from Employment and Social Development Canada, supporting hundreds of Indigenous people to launch careers in the technology sector. BrainStation joins several other digital learning companies and training institutes to partner with the Technology Council including: Lighthouse Labs, the RED Academy, Thompson Rivers Mapping, Royal Roads University, the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology and Vancouver Community College.
